Psalm 145:13 “The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.”
Psalm 145:13 “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.”
Why am I so quick to forget the Lord’s promises? The Bible is full of promises he has made to his people, promises he’s always fulfilled. There has not been one time, one instance, where a promise made by the Father has not been fulfilled. He’s never forgotten what he said, he never missed a date, never said “Oops.” Yet I for one frequently overlook the many promises made to me in the Word.
It’s not just biblical promises. There have been times, many times, when God has spoken to me directly, with promises. Promises about my future, about his plan for my life, about the things I will see and the things I will do. Not vague, wishy-washy things, but specific details, things that cannot be overlooked or ignored, or explained away by, “Oh, that’s not what he meant,” sort of excuses. Many of these promises have already been fulfilled. I’ve seen them come to pass before my very eyes. So why do I continue to doubt?
Here’s one he made to me on April 11, 2011: in a dream he spoke to me through two people I’ve known in real life. The first prophesied, saying, “I have heard your cries [concerning a specific request] and because of your patience and perseverance, I will answer your prayers.” The next person jumped up and said I was standing right at the door, that literally my nose was touching it [indicating it would be very soon].
That’s a pretty significant answer from the Lord. He didn’t beat around the bush, but promised my answer would come soon. It has been two months since that dream and I have not yet seen a fulfillment of that promise. I am already doubting it.
Is there something wrong with me? Have I fallen away, or lost my faith? Nope. But I’ve allowed myself to forget the word he spoke to me. It doesn’t matter what my circumstances may tell me, he spoke, it will be done. What is my job, but to hold onto the word he told me, and always trust in it? Daily I remind him of this dream, and as I pray I am encouraged that soon, very soon (remember the nose?) I will see this promised fulfilled.
I know that is the case with every promise Jesus makes to his people.
